แนวข้อสอบเตรียมอุดม การใช้ Other

หนึ่งในประเด็น Grammar ที่ออกสอบบ่อยมากใน ข้อสอบอังกฤษเตรียมอุดม คือการใช้คำว่า other, others, the other, the others, another

แม้จะดูคล้ายกัน แต่แต่ละคำมีวิธีใช้เฉพาะ ไม่ว่าจะเป็นกรณี เอกพจน์ / พหูพจน์ / นับได้ / นับไม่ได้ / ระบุชัดเจน / ไม่ระบุ ซึ่งนักเรียนจำนวนมากใช้ผิดในข้อสอบจริง

บทความนี้จะช่วยน้อง ๆเข้าใจความหมายและการใช้งานแบบละเอียด จำแนวคิดได้เร็ว พร้อมตัวอย่างแนวข้อสอบเก่าเตรียมอุดม

ทำความเข้าใจโครงสร้างที่ทุกคนมักงง

1. another (determiner / pronoun)

another ใช้เมื่อหมายถึงสิ่งที่ “เพิ่มขึ้นอีกหนึ่ง” หรือ “อีกประเภทหนึ่ง (หนึ่งชิ้น/หนึ่งคน)”

คีย์เวิร์ดจำง่าย: another = one more / one different

🔹 another + singular countable noun

ใช้หน้า คำนามเอกพจน์นับได้ เพื่อบอกว่า “อีกหนึ่งชิ้น / อีกหนึ่งอย่าง / อีกหนึ่งคน”

ใช้เมื่อ “เพิ่มสิ่งเดียวอีกหนึ่งชิ้น”

🔹 another + number + plural noun

ใช้บอกจำนวนที่เพิ่ม มากกว่า 1
เช่น “เพิ่มอีก 2 คน / เพิ่มอีก 4 วัน / เพิ่มอีก 3 อัน”

We need another two volunteers.	เราต้องการอาสาสมัครเพิ่มอีก 2 คน

🔹 another (pronoun) ใช้เดี่ยว ๆ แทนนาม

ใช้เมื่อไม่ต้องพูดซ้ำคำหน้า แปลประมาณว่า “อีกอันหนึ่ง/อีกคนหนึ่ง”

เพราะประโยคหมายถึง “อยากเริ่มอีกหนึ่งงาน/บทความ”

2. other

คำว่า other ทำหน้าที่เป็น determiner หมายถึง “อื่น ๆ / แบบอื่น / สิ่งอื่นที่ไม่ใช่อันนี้”

กฎสำคัญ: other ต้องมีคำนามตามหลังเสมอ (เมื่อทำหน้าที่เป็น determiner)

ใช้กับ คำนามพหูพจน์ เพื่อพูดถึงสิ่งอื่นหลายสิ่ง

🔹 other + uncountable noun

ใช้กับ คำนามที่นับไม่ได้

We’ll send other information later.	เราจะส่งข้อมูลอื่น ๆ ให้เพิ่มเติมภายหลัง
You should drink other milk alternatives if you’re lactose intolerant.	ควรทานนมทางเลือกอื่น ๆ ถ้าแพ้นมวัว

สังเกต: แม้ information จะเป็น uncountable แต่รูปแบบยังเป็น other + noun เช่นเดิม

🔹 (a / my / your / this / any / the / these … ) + other + singular noun

ถ้าใช้กับคำนามเอกพจน์** ต้องมีคำกำหนด (determiner) อยู่หน้าคำว่า other**

ถ้าไม่มี determiner → ❌ ผิดไวยากรณ์

3. the other (determiner / pronoun) ใช้เมื่อพูดถึง “สอง”

the other หมายถึง อีกหนึ่งที่เหลืออยู่ ในกรณีที่ “มี 2 สิ่ง/2 คน” และเราพูดถึงสิ่งหนึ่งไปแล้ว

สูตรจำ:
สองสิ่ง → one … the other

🔹 the other + singular noun

ใช้หน้า คำนามเอกพจน์ เมื่อต้องการระบุ “อัน/คนที่เหลืออีกหนึ่ง”

โครงสร้าง: the other + singular noun

There are two seats. I’ll take the other seat.	มี 2 ที่นั่ง → อีกหนึ่งที่เหลือ
She bought two dresses. One was blue, and the other dress was red.	มีแค่สองตัว

🔹 ใช้เป็น pronoun ได้ (ไม่ต้องมีคำนามตามหลัง)

เมื่อคำนามชัดเจนจากบริบทแล้ว → ตัดคำนามทิ้งได้

He held a bag in one hand and a book in the other.	มือหนึ่งถือกระเป๋า อีกมือถือหนังสือ
One student is here; the other is outside.	มีสองคน → อีกคนหนึ่ง

ถ้าเจอ “2 ตัวเลือก” ในโจทย์ ให้คิดถึง the other ก่อนเลย

⚠️ จุดจำสำคัญ

ใช้เมื่อ “จำนวนทั้งหมด = 2”
ถ้าจำนวนมากกว่า 2 → ต้องใช้รูป the others หรือ the other + number + noun

4. the others (pronoun/determiner) — สิ่งที่เหลือทั้งหมด (มากกว่า 2)

ใช้เมื่อพูดถึง คน/สิ่งที่เหลือทั้งหมดในกลุ่มที่มากกว่า 2

ความหมาย: “ที่เหลือทั้งหมด”

🔹 the others (pronoun)

ใช้แทนคำนาม → ไม่ต้องมีคำนามตามหลัง

Three students passed; the others will retake.	นักเรียนที่เหลือทั้งหมดจะสอบใหม่
Five members are here; the others are late.	ที่เหลืออีกหลายคน

🔹 the other + plural noun (ระบุจำนวนที่เหลือ)

ถ้ารู้จำนวนที่เหลือชัด → ใช้แบบนี้

เทคนิคทำโจทย์เร็วในสนามสอบ เลือกยังไงให้ถูกใน 10 วินาที

จับจำนวนก่อน: มี 2 หรือ >2 ?
1. ถ้าหมายถึง “เพิ่มอีก หนึ่ง” → another
2. ถ้าหมายถึง “อย่างอื่น” และ มีคำนามตามหลัง → other + N
3. ถ้าหมายถึง “คน/สิ่งอื่น ๆ” และ ไม่มีคำนามตามหลัง → others
4. ถ้าชุดมี สอง แล้วต้องการ “อันที่เหลือ” → the other
5. ถ้าชุดมี หลายอัน แล้วพูด “ที่เหลือทั้งหมด” → the others / “ที่เหลือ + จำนวน” → the other + number + N
เช็กว่ามีคำนามตามหลังไหม
ดูว่าต้องการ “เพิ่มอีกหนึ่ง” ไหม → another
วงคำลวง: others + N, other + singular N (ไม่มี determiner), an other
เจอคำอย่าง two, both, either → นึกถึง the other ทันที

ข้อผิดพลาดที่มักใช้ผิดในข้อสอบ (Common Exam Mistakes)

1. other vs others

✅ I don’t like this design. Show me other designs.
✅ Some designs are modern; others are vintage.
❌ others designs (ผิด เพราะ others ห้ามตามด้วยคำนาม)

2. the other vs another

the other = ที่เหลือ “อีกหนึ่ง” ใน สอง
- I have two keys. One is lost; the other is here.
another = เพิ่มอีกหนึ่ง (จำนวนยังไม่จำกัด)
- I finished one task. I’ll start another.

3. the others vs the other + plural noun

the others = ที่เหลือทั้งหมด (ไม่ใส่นาม)
- Two students left early; the others stayed.
the other + plural N = ระบุจำนวนที่เหลือ
- Two left early; the other three students stayed.

4. other + singular noun ต้องมี determiner

✅ Do you have any other question?
❌ Do you have other question?

5. another เขียนติดกันเสมอ

✅ another day
❌ an other day
